HIRING: ATHENS TOWNSHIP POLICE

ROAD CLOSURE 9/16/25: Erin Rd. will be closed on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 from approximately 8AM-3PM for paving.

 

HIRING:  ATHENS TOWNSHIP 

Athens Township is accepting applications with resumes for the following positions:

 

Township Treasurer

The Township Treasurer oversees all financial aspects of the Township, reporting directly to the Board of Supervisors on financial matters, keeping accurate account of income and expenses. Responsible for all aspects of payroll, assisting in Federal/State/Local Audits and attends municipal meetings/trainings. This is a full-time OR part-time non-union position with benefits (medical, dental, vision, etc.). It requires attention to detail and experience with accounting, QuickBooks and Microsoft Office; also may include evening/weekend hours, plus meetings / workshops. Applicants must be able to be bonded and have municipal experience. Salary commensurate with experience. 

 

Director of Public Works 

The Township Director of Public Works is a full-time, non-union position with benefits (medical, dental, vision, etc.).   The DPW will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Public Works Dept. and will act as a liaison between the Board of Supervisors and residents.  Experience with personnel management, roadway construction and maintenance, equipment operation, record keeping, budget development, and grant writing/submission is preferred.  Hiring is contingent upon having a valid driver’s license and passing pre-employment criminal background checks and drug/alcohol screening.  Salary commensurate with experience.

 

Machine / Equipment Operator

The Township Public Works Dept. is seeking a Machine / Equipment Operator with Class A or B CDL license and relevant road maintenance experience. The position is for someone who is self-motivated and well-rounded. To be qualified, you must be able to lift at least 50 lbs., be outside in all types of weather conditions, be available for overtime hours and able to operate a variety of equipment. Hiring is contingent upon passing pre-employment criminal background checks and drug/alcohol test. Pay rate dependent upon experience, great benefits.

Athens Township wishes to advise all motorists of road improvement projects estimated to begin Monday – August 11th, 2025 on the following: WESTBROOK ST, CENTER ST, PINE TREE RD, ROSH RD, HILLCREST DR, JACOB ST, LAMBERT ST, BAXTER ST, SHUMAN HILL RD, and OWASCO RD. Additionally, another road improvement project is estimated to begin mid-August, 2025 on ERIN RD.  All projects on these roads may cause traffic delays, please allow additional travel time or use an alternate route. Effective immediately, Code Inspections, Inc. will be suspending their walk-in office hours at our building indefinitely. Please call their office at (570) 928-9208 if you need further assistance. 

EMERGENCY ROAD CLOSURE: 12/17/24 Effective immediately, Wildwood Road will be closed for an emergency repair. The Public Works Superintendent is on his way to the site, and equipment has been brought to the scene to help secure the road as quickly as possible. The road is expected to reopen by 10PM tonight, but, until that time, NO traffic will be able to pass through. Emergency responders will be able to access the residents, homes, and properties on the other side of the swamp through Porter's, but residents will be unable to use that property as a detour since it is an active mining site.
